NGC Special Labels and Designations for China's Year of the Rat Gold and Silver Coins
Posted on 11/18/2019
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation™ (NGC®) is offering special labels and designations to celebrate China's 2020 Year of the Rat Gold and Silver Coins, which have been released on November 18, 2019.
First issued in 1981, the Chinese Zodiac Gold and Silver Coins have become one of the country’s most popular series. To celebrate the rat, the next Chinese zodiac animal, the People’s Bank of China is issuing 17 coins, including 10 gold and seven silver coins. The obverse of Each coin features China's National Emblem with auspicious patterns, while the reverse shows an image of rat in either a realistic style or a traditional Chinese decorative art style. The coins are also available in various shapes, including round, fan, rectangle and scallop.

NGC's Year of the Rat label echoes the themes of the new releases and continues NGC's popular Lunar Series of special labels. It includes an image of a paper cut rat in red, a color associated with good luck and happiness in Chinese culture. In addition, it can also be used with other 2020 coins or any rat-related coins. The label is available by request for an additional fee of US$5 per coin.
Coins received by NGC within the first 30 days of their release are eligible for NGC's popular EARLY RELEASES and FIRST RELEASES designations. To learn more about NGC Early Releases and First Releases, please click here. To see NGC Early Releases / First Releases cutoff dates, click here.
